Vienna photos and Salzburg

So many animal pictures.

Alright, so, after Vienna I went over to Salzburg. In the original plan I was supposed to go skiing in a resort next to Salzburg because, I mean, it's the Alps. Aside from being a totally new and exciting adventure skiing the Alps also equals hardcore bragging rights.
Oh you have a job? That's neat. I once skied the Alps. No big deal.

Anyways, that didn't end up happening because there is a massive heat wave right now. It was roughly 70 F when I was there. So yeah, no skiing. Not unless I wanted to go to a glacier. Which I did not. Darn.

Anyways, Salzburg ended up being a really cute picturesque town. I walked through one absolutely gorgeous park and then worked my way over to Mozart's birthplace which now holds a museum filled with loads of artifacts from his life including some original letters which prove what a wacky goofball/genius he was. After that I went to a second Mozart museum which was held in a house he lived in with his wife and children. I walked away from Salzburg with a newfound appreciation for opera and classical music (I'm listening to Vivaldi right now).

After that I worked my way back to the hostel, stopping at one of the parks on the way to read for a bit and take in the scenery. I got back around supper time where I made friends with two guys, both of whom are on bike tours around central Europe. One was from Australia and the other was Canadian. We spent a long time in the bar on the ground floor of the hostel drinking local beer and talking about various sports. Many jokes were mad at each others' expense, but we could all pretty much agree that cricket is a horrible excuse for a sport. The jury's still out on curling.

After that we all went out to an Augustiner beer hall, where I drank 1 liter of beer (it was the size of my forearm and so delicious) and continued to talk about sports. After they turned the lights off on us we all went walking around the city, stopping on the bridge to take pictures of the lovely scenery and then wandering through the old town. We made it back to the hostel around midnight.

I really loved Salzburg, even though I was only there for one night. It's another one of those cities I could see myself living in if I could ever motivate myself to learn German, which I can't, but still it's an absolutely gorgeous town. It's like the setting for a fairy tale, but time is starting to get away from me and I have many more wonderful places to see. Next stop Pilsen and Budweis.
