Napoli, Capri, Pompeii

So right now I'm using Napoli as a base camp while I went to go see Capri Island and Pompeii.

My first day here was nearly perfect. I took a boat tour around Capri led by an adorable little man that looked like the Italian Jerry Seinfeld. He took our group around the major areas of Capri, including the Blue Grotto, and let us stop and swim before moving on to the next stop. Then it pulled over onto the island giving us three hours of wandering time. I went for a short hike, window shopped in the town, washed it down with a bit of gelato (coconut and melon, my favorite gelati combo) and went right back on the boat. After a bit more swimming I headed back to Sorrento, then Napoli. Once in Napoli, I headed out to a place called Gino Sorbillo, which serves the "best pizza in Napoli" and therefore the world. I went in trying to keep my expectations low, which was a mistake. The pizza was delicious, easily the best I've ever had, and probably ruined all other pizzas for me forever.

Anyways, here are my Capri photos:

So after Capri I went to Pompeii for the day, which was fascinating. I was too cheap to join a tour or a guidebook and I couldn't help but feel that a lot of information was going over my head. However, I loved exploring the ruins. It sort of reminded me of a park back in my hometown called Fort Williams, exploring the old army forts as a kid. Unfortunately, unlike the Fort all the cool and interesting/dangerous looking parts of Pompeii were blocked off. Ho hum.
Another interesting thing about Pompeii was that there was a dog refugee center intilled right into the ruins, meaning that you were allowed to adopt the stray dogs that were wandering around Pompeii. I was sorely tempted, especially remembering this one German Shephard mix that I crossed paths with several times while I was exploring Pompeii. Honestly, it took a good does of common sense for me to walk away from the city without a new pet.

That's all for now. Off to Florence next. I've been encouraged by an Aunt to buy a nice cameo and leather bound book from a Florence market, I hope I'm successful.
