I went in to the Santa Maria della Grazie with sort of a fleeting hope that maybe (maybe, probably not) I'd be able to sneak into a tour to see the last supper. I was told that one needs to make reservations weeks in advance in order to see it, but I figured maybe there would be a last minute cancellation. And there was. Two of them, in fact. For a tour that left in 30 minutes. And it was free.
Wait, really? I asked.
Yes, really. The woman behind the counter said.
Oh. I said. Well, Thanks.
You're welcome.
So that was that.
2. Saw some ancient art and the Leonardo da Vinci museum.
I'm getting a bit tired of museums though, so I'll just post some pictures instead of talking about them.
I asked the woman behind the desk about some nice, authentic places to eat in Milan. She pointed out to me a street in the very south western part of the city. When I got there it was filled with a huge flea market selling oodles of gorgeous things; jewelery, antique books and photgraphs, eyeglasses, furniture. It felt like it went on for miles.
Then I sat down for happy hour at one of the many (many!) places to eat on the street and found that many places offered up a buffet and happy hour special. So I got a glass of wine and unlimited access to fresh bread, homemade gnocci, pizza, caprese salad, bruschetta, fresh fruit on a stick with a sprig of mint leaf and eggplant parmesan. All while looking over a gorgeous canal.
I'm leaving Milan this afternoon on a train to Levanto. I'll write again soon.
